About Espace Bernadette Soubirous Nevers

Espace Bernadette Soubirous Nevers is in Nevers, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France and is an international pilgrimage sanctuary at the former Saint-Gildard convent, where St. Bernadette Soubirous lived and where her body is displayed in a glass shrine.. The Sisters of Charity of Nevers had their new Saint-Gildard motherhouse buildings blessed and the chapel consecrated in July 1856.

Bernadette Soubirous arrived there on 7 July 1866, entered religious life, and remained until her death on 16 April 1879. During the beatification process her body was examined in 1909, 1919 and 1925; after her beatification in 1925 it was placed in the shrine in the main chapel. She was canonized in 1933.

Pilgrims venerate the remains of St. Bernadette. The sanctuary states that the body was found intact during the canonical examinations; that institutional account is reported as part of the Church process and devotional context, without treating the condition of the body as proof of supernatural causation.
