Kagyu-Dzong is in Paris, Île-de-France, France and is a historic Tibetan Buddhist temple in Paris and an early major centre of the Karma Kagyu tradition in France.. Kagyu-Dzong traces its foundation to 1975, when the 16th Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, blessed the creation of a Tibetan Buddhist Kagyupa centre in France.
Kalu Rinpoche gave the centre its name and appointed Lama Gyourmé to lead it. The present temple, within the Bois de Vincennes Buddhist precinct, was inaugurated in 1985. Religious life or devotional practice associated with the site includes Tibetan Buddhist meditation, teachings, and ritual practice.
The centre’s own history describes it as the first Tibetan Buddhist Kagyupa centre created in France. Its location beside the Grande Pagode places it within a broader Buddhist precinct in the Bois de Vincennes, while its distinct identity comes from Karma Kagyu teaching, meditation and ritual practice developed around the temple inaugurated in 1985.
