Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal is in Paris, Île-de-France, France and is an international Catholic pilgrimage chapel associated with Catherine Labouré’s reported 1830 Marian visions and the origin of the Miraculous Medal devotion.. The chapel at 140 rue du Bac was blessed in 1815. Catherine Labouré, then a novice of the Daughters of Charity, reported Marian visions there in 1830.

The medal based on the imagery she described began to be struck and distributed in 1832, becoming the focus of a widespread Catholic devotion. Catholic tradition at the chapel holds that the Virgin Mary appeared to Catherine Labouré and requested the design that became known as the Miraculous Medal.

The apparition account is presented as the testimony and devotional tradition of the chapel and its religious community, not as an independently proven supernatural event. The chapel remains a living Catholic place of prayer within the religious complex on rue du Bac. Its significance comes less from monumental architecture than from the worldwide devotional history of the medal and from the continuing association of the site with Catherine Labouré’s testimony.
